PICK OF THE DAY
Watford - Crystal Palace
Tip : GG (both to score)
Odd : 1.80
FT : 0:0 Lost
The end of the Premier League season is in sight now, and that’s a fact that Watford will be somewhat glad of considering their recent form. Their 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield last weekend made it five games without a win in the Premier League, four of which have ended in defeat.
The Hornets should be safe from the relegation battle barring any ridiculous turn of events, but it’s certainly not what they were aiming for after the first few months of the season. They started the campaign fantastically well, but coming into the final four games they have just 37 points and a nine point cushion over the drop zone.
At the beginning of the season Watford found themselves performing much better on their travels, but that has reversed in the second half of the campaign. They have won four of their last eight home league games, but away from home haven’t won since November. Even with this improved home form, they are by no means unbeatable at Vicarage Road. In fact, their last two home matches have seen a defeat to Burnley and a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth.
Crystal Palace will be hoping to take advantage of this, because unlike their opponents they are facing a relegation battle. The Eagles started the season in terrible shape, but Roy Hodgson managed to turn their form on it’s head. It’s still been difficult, but after losing their first seven in the league it looked unlikely that they would ever escape the bottom three.
Last weekend they put in a stellar performance against Brighton, racing to a 2-0 lead and eventually winning a 3-2 thriller at Selhurst Park. This makes it two wins from their last four games, and puts them six points clear of the relegation zone but still only in 16th position.
Palace’s improvement has come in the form of an increased output going forward. This is true even away from home, where they have scored in each of their last nine Premier League games after failing to score in any of their first eight. Defensively it’s still a struggle though, which is shown by their tally of just two clean sheets in this nine game run.
By contrast, Watford’s decline has come due to their decreased attacking power, but at Vicarage Road they haven’t been affected so badly. The Hornets have scored in 12 home games in a row, but have only kept three clean sheets during this period. This makes a Both Teams to Score bet look great value, alongside a 2-2 correct score predictions.
